Week 2 Assignment: Analyze the Historical Development of Evidence-Based Substance Use and Other Addictive Disorders

This week, you will develop a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation on the importance of empirical research. The goal is to help the addiction counselors appreciate the importance and role of research for informing effective treatment. You are not teaching how to conduct studies; you are giving instruction on the value of research and why you should understand the role of research.

The presentation should include highlighting a brief history (key studies) that helped to shape treatment interventions. In addition, provide a slide for each of the following topics and provide and identify a study that utilized the specific method (a quality description should be presented in the notes section of the slide):

1. Efficacy vs. Effectiveness
2. Qualitative Research
3. Quantitative Research
4. Mixed Methods Research
5. Randomized Controlled Trial
6. Quasi-experimental Studies
7. Experimental Studies
8. Field Observation

Length: 8-11 slides, plus title and reference slides with a minimum of five scholarly references. Each slide must have a note section with 200-350 words that supports the slide topic.

References: Include a minimum of 4 scholarly resources.

The completed assignment should address all of the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course. The writing should integrate scholarly resources, reflect academic expectations and current APA standards, and adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.
